Getting Started: Some May Inspiration
Getting started in financial wellness with some basics inspired by two of our mentors--who happen to be of AAPI descent

At Wyndham Ashley Capital Group, we believe that building wealth starts with a simple truth: you have to know what you own, what you owe, and where your money is going. Acquiring assets and reducing liabilities might sound intimidating at first, but it’s really about making small, consistent choices that lead to big financial changes over time. This AAPI Heritage Month, we’re honoring two of our financial role models—Robert Kiyosaki and Ramit Sethi—whose work has laid the foundation for how we teach financial wellness. Kiyosaki reminds us that “assets put money in your pocket,” while liabilities take it out. It’s a lesson in awareness and action: track what you have, and build on what will grow.
Ramit Sethi, on the other hand, encourages us to create a “rich life” that’s personal, intentional, and rooted in values—not just numbers. That means taking ownership of your financial vision and making a plan that actually excites you. So where do you begin? Start by listing your income, debts, and expenses. Then identify one asset you can grow (like a savings account, side business, or investment) and one liability you can shrink (like high-interest debt or unnecessary subscriptions). Yes--this is essentially budgeting, which is something that even corporations need to do avoid costly errors and unhelpful spending. If this word sounds restrictive, negative, or "cringe" in other ways, it may be helpful to think of this as a conscious or intentional "spending plan," as Ramit often refers to it.
This first step might feel scary or embarrassing, but it’s powerful—and you don’t have to take it alone. We’re here to help!
